Surprised after buying ‘A Second-Hand Car’

Buying a second-hand car rather than a new one is a great way to save yourself some extra cash. You can repair it, do it up a bit and then you’re good to go! However, before investing in a second-hand car, it is important to check that everything is functioning as it should be.

The man, who is the protagonist of this story, decided that he wanted to buy himself a good quality car at a low price. He went to a second-hand car auction, with the intention of finding himself a nice car, at a reasonable price, since he was on a tight budget.

Making The Right Decision

The purpose of buying the car was that this guy needed it for work. He thought about it several times before deciding to buy this car for himself. He had already put aside some funds for the car. He wanted his new car to be an investment rather, than an expense.

Nonetheless, his head was whirring, thinking about where he would buy the vehicle that he needed, which made it all the more fascinating. This man wouldn’t settle for any old recycled vehicle shop, he instead, had an interesting idea about where he could get it.

Police Auction

This guy had a specific idea of where he wanted to buy this from. His idea was quite out of the ordinary. He wanted to buy it from a police auction. What do you think about that? Would you have the same mindset as him? We aren’t so sure..

This man thought that it was the safest place to buy a legitimate vehicle at a low price. In fact, since the police had already confiscated it from its owner, there was no risk of anyone claiming the vehicle as their own. See, it’s quite a clever idea, right?

A Nice Jeep

He researched the dates of the police auction on the internet and saw that it perfectly fitted in with his schedule. He was so excited and waited patiently until the day arrived. Finally, it was the day of the police auction and he headed there, ensuring that he was nice and on time.

He registered for the auction as a bidder. Then, the auction began and the host announced the first car to be auctioned. He thought that he would be able to find the best vehicle for a low budget. And he guessed right, he was able to buy a nice jeep for himself!

The Electric Window Isn’t Working

The guy was overjoyed at the idea of buying himself a jeep. The price was lower than he had actually anticipated, and he knew that it was one of the best decisions he had made. Soon, he noted that the electric window of the jeep was not working properly. He had already paid for the jeep in cash, so he could not return it.

He had signed an agreement that stated that it was a “no return, no exchange” policy. So, he was left with no other option than to try and fix it himself. He had a bit of knowledge of auto-mechanics, so the task shouldn’t be too difficult for him. Then he began to check what might have gone wrong.

Just An Electric Window

He though that the wrecked electric window was not a huge issue and he would be able to deal with it himself. He did not even consider taking it to a specialist, since he had spent the entirety of his cash on purchasing the jeep. He had previously completed a foundation in auto-mechanics, so was convinced he would be able to fix it.

He prepared all of the tools that he would require to open up the window of the vehicle before heading to the garage, to check on the jeep. As he was assessing it, he had an inclination that there was something a little off about the window compartment of the vehicle.

Something Was Not Right

As the man was investigating the window board of the jeep, he realised that something wasn’t quite right. He immediately removed the internal board of the window and had a look at what was inside. When the window board had come off, he discovered a strange object. It seemed as though the frame had been opened up and fixed prior to this.

He felt frightened from the outset, he thought there might be something inside that he shouldn’t see, much like in the plot of a film; individuals frequently discover drugs, guns, jewels, gold bars, or huge amounts of cash hidden away in compartments of a relinquished vehicle or an escape vehicle. He was somewhat reluctant, however, his intrigue got the better of him and he decided to push through it to check what it was that was covered up in the window board.

A Small Black Bag

Upon opening the window board of the jeep, the man saw a little dark sack wedged between the wires that connected the electric window board. From the start, he was somewhat concerned about opening it. His hands were shaking; he pulled out the dark pack and set it down on the driver’s seat.

He stopped a moment, and, since clutching the sack, he had an inclination that it looked like a heap of cash. He dismissed this thought and went outside to get some air. After a couple of moments, he returned to the garage, picked up the little dark pack, and went up to his room.

Packs of Money

While he was in his room, he placed the dark pack down on the table and examined it for a couple more minutes. Despite the fact that it wasn’t his, he decided to open it. He figured it was okay, considering the fact that he was the new owner of the recycled jeep.

After he had unclamped the dark pocket, he was surprised by what he found. There were seven piles of something with letters and numbers written on them. He grabbed the scissors and attempted to open the main pack, and found a heap of $10 greenbacks. When he opened the following one, he was much more amazed at what he found inside!

More Dollar Bills

He was in shock after seeing so many dollar notes! He was so amazed, that he proceeded to open the rest. After all the $10 notes, came some packs of $20 notes. This was then followed by the discovery of packs of $50 and $100 notes. How might you respond if you were that person?

What would you do first? Would you report it to the police? Or, would you simply keep it for yourself? All of these questions were running through his mind. Yet, what he did afterwards, will no doubt surprise you. Before doing anything else, he finished opening the packets.

Total Amount Was Unknown

The total sum of cash the person found in his recently purchased recycled jeep was crazy. We don’t know the total amount of money that he found inside the little dark sack, but we are sure that it was a significant amount of money.

What do you think this person would do with all this cash? Would he save it for himself? Would he tell his family or his companions? Or, will he call the police to report it? The person was so thrown by this that he didn’t know how to deal with it. In any case, what he chose to do after will astonish everyone.

Online Post

What this person did with his revelation was amazing! After he took photos of the dark pack and the heaps of cash in it, he openly uploaded these photographs onto the internet! In the event that you were this person, would you do as he did? Did he share it to gloat, or did he share it to see whether anyone would claim it?

Without a doubt, if the owner of the car saw these photos, he would realise that it was his cash and attempt to reach him. Maybe the man in question had set this up deliberately in order to gain some attention among online communities… What the man did next, was even more unexpected…

He Deleted Everything

We can’t determine what this person was thinking when he decided to post everything on the web. He had pictures of him, both standing next to the piles of cash, and holding the cash. The implication was that he was gloating about the money he had found. He uploaded the photos without taking into account the fact that his life may be at serious risk if this was all shown to be the truth.

However, after a couple of hours, all the uploaded photos of the money that he had discovered inside this little dark sack were completely erased, leaving no hint whatsoever that this had happened. He even erased his online profile so nobody could follow and find him.

How Did The Money Get There?

No one knows what the response was to this inquiry. Yet, a few people came up with theories as to how the cash got inside the electronic window board of the vehicle. Some state, the person simply did it to show off, others think the photos may have been fake, and others are under the impression that all this was a plot in order to mislead and get people’s attention.

Indeed, nobody knows the truth. Be that as it may, the media can’t seem to let this go! They were all the while researching and searching for signs to find out the origin of this incredible online post that grabbed everybody’s attention, and we’re all eagerly anticipating an explanation for this story.

It Was The Perfect Hiding Place

The new owner of the second-hand jeep was, in the end, not the only one amazed at what he had discovered inside the vehicle, so were the individuals who saw the photos he  posted on the web. One thing we can be sure of, is that electric window boards are the ideal place for criminals to hide illegal drugs, cash, jewels, or anything else that one would like to cover up.

This situation is like something out of a crime movie or novel. Unfortunately, we will probably never know the answer as to how the money ended up in that car or who it belonged to. Perhaps one day someone will come clean, but until then, we will have to just theorise.

What Would You Do?

It appears as though numerous individuals had their own stories that were similar to this one. Some also found enormous packs of money stashed away inside their second-hand purchased vehicles, and what’s incredible is the fact that a lot of them made the decision to report the cash to the police. The thought process was that it was not their money and it could place their lives at serious risk in the event that they save it for themselves.

On the off chance that this situation happened to you, what would you do with the cash? Would you save it for yourself? Mention to your family what you have found? Or, would you promptly call the police to report it? It’s difficult to know the answer without actually being in the situation yourself.

Online Pictures Gone Viral

The media continued to bring back this story; they were all the while attempting to delve further into the circumstances surrounding the immense amount of cash that has been found. Will it ever end? The last time that this story made an appearance, was back in 2013.

And now, it’s re-emerging again, in the search for more information on what was the genuine reason behind the online pictures that were uploaded before by a man who purchased a second-hand vehicle and found a fortune inside one of its window boards. Since the owner of the jeep can no longer be found again, and all of the pictures have been erased, what will happen next?

Check First Before Putting On Sale

The majority of the individuals who have heard this story suggested that vehicle sellers should ensure that they always check and examine the different parts of these cars in order to avoid this sort of event. Everything should be checked for quality control, and there ought to be no issues.

The sales representatives should check the vehicles really thoroughly initially, before putting them on the market. Regardless of whether or not they were “used” vehicles, they could actually be sold at a lower cost. Do you have any suggestions about this?

Before Buying Second-Hand Cars

Because of these sorts of stories circulating on the web, individuals have started checking all vehicle parts to the extent that they analyse all the window boards to avoid this sort of situation happening to them. They do not want to risk ruining the lives of themselves and those of their families.

It is not just cash that could be hidden inside it: drugs, weapons, guns, and more can be covered up in here as well, all illicit and can get one in a difficult situation once found. We should be cautious about buying these sorts of vehicles, always run legitimate testing, and check first before investing.

Different Polls Created

After this story went viral on the web, there were endless surveys published asking individuals, what they might have done if they were faced with a situation like this. Of course you would want to keep the money – think of all the things you could buy with it! However, it is important to first think the situation through rationally in order to avoid getting into any kind of trouble.

The answers to the surveys would shock you. Yet, imagine that this actually did happen to you. Would you report this to the police immediately? Would you save the cash for yourself? Would you tell anybody? What might you do in the event that you were in this person’s shoes?

29+ Western Movies, Ranked by Critics

Julia ShepherdENTERTAINMENT /

Django, Unchained, Western, Movie

With their memorable characters and stand-offs, Western movies make for the ultimate adventures. From vintage classics to modern-day blockbusters, these films are the best of the genre, according to Rotten Tomatoes.

40. The Claim (2000)

Dillion is a man on a treacherous hunt for a treasure of gold. Despite the difficult winter temperatures, all is looking good until a decision to sell his wife and daughter is one he comes to regret…

“Though it sometimes feels cold and detached, The Claim is evocative, beautifully shot, and full of understated performances,” noted a Rotten Tomatoes movie critic. Overall, the western film received a 62% rating from the site, making it the lowest ranking in our list.

39. Maverick (1994)

Although it has all the serious and thrilling scenes we desire from the Old West, Maverick sets itself apart from other western movies with its numerous comedic moments. Based on the television series with the same title, this film follows Bret Maverick on his life adventures.

Scoring 66% on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie proved to be a popular point of discussion. One review wrote, “Despite the attention of master scriptwriter William Goldman, this gentle tribute to the hit comedy western TV series missed a golden opportunity for a razor-sharp spoof. There’s no doubt the stars had a ball, though.”

38. Dead Man (1995)

After murdering a man, William Blake (Johnny Depp) is on the run. Journeying through the western frontier of the US, he meets an interesting man named “nobody.” The two strangers develop a strong bond as nobody prepares his new friend for his journey into the spiritual world.

Highly praised for its accurate portrayal of the American Old West, a Rotten Tomatoes critic said, “Dead Man is an elegiac poem of a film that examines our country’s shameful history of viciousness and racism.” Combining the reviews, the site gave it a 71% rating.

37. The Salvation (2014)

Despite including all the classic clichés of most western films, this film still managed to have some unique moments. “It’s all but impossible to add anything new or fresh to the traditional Western, but — thanks in no small part to Mads Mikkelson’s performance — The Salvation comes close,” wrote one critic.

Like many movies on this list, The Salvation follows a sequence of murder and revenge. A Danish settler, Jon, vengefully shoots the man who murdered his wife. Following that, the murdered man’s brother seeks to avenge the death of his brother. This thrilling chain of events earned the film a 72% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

36. The Keeping Room (2015)

This 2015 movie, rated 74% on Rotten Tomatoes, added a modern twist to a film set in older times. Although it accurately brought the period to life on screen, The Keeping Room differed from other western movies with its choice to cast two women in the leading roles in place of the traditional male protagonist.

When the Civil War leaves most of the men in their town hurt, two sisters (Hailee Steinfeld and Brit Marling) and an enslaved woman work together to save their home. One reviewer noted this is “a Western that revolves around a trio of gun-wielding female leads and has a clear and consistent feminist message.”

35. The Horse Whisperer (1998)

A young Scarlett Johansson plays Grace, a teenager with a severely injured pet horse. Following her mother’s instructions, she seeks the help of a horse whisperer named Tom (Robert Redford). In the process of healing the horse, Grace and her mother discover Tom is somewhat of a people whisperer too.

A real-life cowboy named Dan “Buck” Brannaman was the inspiration behind Redford’s character. Dan made a name for himself for his unique ability to discipline misbehaved horses. Awarded a score of 74% on Rotten Tomatoes, this heart-warming story, with its western tones, stole the hearts of its audiences.

34. Tombstone (1993)

Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer play brother duo Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday in this 1993 Western classic. Along with Earp’s brother, the pair move to Tombstone, Arizona. Here, they surprisingly find themselves in danger after being hunted down by a gang of cowboys.

Critics were highly impressed by how the director carefully chose the sets and costumes to accurately represent the film’s historical setting. Because the film was based on real-life people and events, this precision was essential, and perhaps because it pulled it off so well, Rotten Tomatoes rated it 74%.

33. The Ballad of Little Jo (1993)

After an unexpected pre-marital pregnancy results in an expulsion from her family home, Josephine (Suzy Amis) packs up her few belongings, abandons the baby, and heads west. Along the way, after experiencing many aggressive male advances, she takes on the male identity of Jo.

Although the film was rated 76% on Rotten Tomatoes, it was met with mixed reviews. While one critic on the site praised its ability to “take aim at the glorious macho westerns of the past,” others criticized the confusing storyline and doubted the credibility of Amis passing off a man.

32. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007)

Brad Pitt stars as a Missouri outlaw named Jess James in this critically acclaimed western film. Following the direction of the book with the same name, the movie centers around the life of Jess as he plans his next big heist and fights off those desperate to capture him and claim the bounty.

Audiences were impressed by the movie’s unprecedented contemporary spin on a western film. Critics praised it for being “an expertly crafted period piece, and an insightful look at one of the enduring figures of American lore.” With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 77%, this film finds itself in 32nd place on this list.

31. Red Hill (2010)

This thrilling western film had audiences gripped as it followed the wild adventures of a police officer named Shane Cooper. On the first day of his new job in a new town, he is assigned a mission to track down an escaped prisoner with a murder record.

Rotten Tomatoes critic wrote, “the age-old trope of Cowboys and Indians is transformed into a vessel for the rage of Indigenous people who’ve been colonized since the day the British set foot in Australia.” The site gave the film a positive rating of 79%.

30. The Homesman (2014)

In contrast to most movies in the Western genre, The Homesman made the praiseworthy decision to feature a female, rather than male, protagonist. Mary Bee Cuddy, a frontier farmer, enlists George Briggs to help her on her mission to relocate three emotionally broken women to Iowa.

Michael Smith, a Rotten Tomatoes critic, wrote, “The Homesman is a dark, complex story of gender issues and changing conventions on the frontier, and in an era that sees this genre fading, Jones has made a Western winner.” With a review like that, the site understandably gave it an 80% rating.

29. Dances with Wolves (1990)

This seven-time Academy Award-winning movie impressed critics everywhere. With a rating of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie’s director Kevin Costner received much praise for his portrayal of the Sioux tribe. Perhaps more importantly, Native Americans were appreciative of how the tribe and their language were depicted on screen.

Attracted by their simple way of life, a Civil War soldier leaves his old life behind to go and join the Lakota Indians. After he is welcomed into the tribe and falls in love with another one of its members, things are looking good. That is until the Union Soldiers arrive on the land and threaten their existence.

28. Westworld (1973)

Westworld is a futuristic amusement park where visitors can experience the gun-slinging adventures of the Wild West. Park guests Blane and Martin are excited to get into the saloon and shoot their guns. However, when the system malfunctions and one of the friends is killed by a shooting robot, things take a turn for the worse.

This sci-fi/action/western movie proved incredibly popular with audiences, with an 85% Rotten Tomatoes score. Described by a critic as “a thrilling What If?” the film’s clever twist on a classic premise was admired. “Combines solid entertainment, chilling topicality, and superbly intelligent seriocomic story values,” wrote another.

27. Django Unchained (2012)

Django Unchained brought issues of slavery and racism to the big screen in a way never seen before. The Academy Award-winning original screenplay, directed by Quentin Tarantino, tells the story of a slave and a German bounty hunter who combine their skills to find and serve retribution against vicious slave owners.

The star-studded cast included Christoph Waltz, Jamie Foxx, Samuel L. Jackson, and Leonardo DiCaprio. Rated on Rotten Tomatoes as 87%, it is one of Tarantino’s most successful projects. One critic said, “Bold, hysterical, entertaining, brutal and daring, it is another masterpiece from the present-master of the western.”

26. Blazing Saddles (1974)

With its humorous undertones and satirical approach, it could be argued that Blazing Saddles does not fit in within the Western movie genre. Ultimately, however, this film is a historical tale that depicts the aftermath of a black man being appointed as the town sheriff.

Despite its initial criticisms, movie reviewers grew to love the film, labeling it a comedy cult classic. One reviewer wrote, “Daring, provocative, and laugh-out-loud funny, Blazing Saddles is a gleefully vulgar spoof of Westerns.” Overall, Rotten Tomatoes awarded the movie an impressive 88% rating.

25. True Grit (1969)

Unknown to many is that the 2010 movie True Grit is a remake of the film with the same name released in 1969. Like the remake, this original movie was incredibly popular and highly praised by critics. Although it received an impressive 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the 2010 version impressively surpassed it.

John Wayne won an Academy Award for his performance in this movie as US Marshal Cogburn, known to most as “Rooster.” When a fourteen-year-old girl requests his assistance in finding and killing her father’s murderer, Rooster abides. With a plot that thick, a re-make was pretty much inevitable.

24. The Magnificent Seven (1960)

Based heavily on the Japanese film Seven SamuraiThe Magnificent Seven follows a Mexican village being threatened by a band of outlaws. In a desperate attempt for survival, the warriors hire seven American gunslingers to fight on their behalf and free them.

Critics were impressed with how the movie put an Old West spin on a Japanese film, managing to protect “the story’s thematic richness” in the process. Described by a movie critic as “one of the most iconic Westerns,” Rotten Tomatoes rated the 1960 classic at 89%.

23. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)

Inspired by a true story, Paul Newman plays Butch Cassidy, a surprisingly likable outlaw. After committing a string of train robberies, Butch and his associate Sundance Kid attempt to escape the law on the frontier and set up a new life for themselves in Bolivia.

Like others on this list, this 1969 film was not immediately praised. However, over time, the movie’s strengths were eventually recognized, and it was given an 89% rating from Rotten Tomatoes. Critics noted the characters’ “iconic” chemistry and labelled the film as one of “the defining moments in late-’60s American cinema.”

22. The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)

Taking us into the 90’s ratings with its 90% Rotten Tomatoes score is The Outlaw Josey Wales. “This revisionist Western” film again showed Clint Eastwood’s talent for directing Western movies. It took on a new approach to the traditional escaped prisoners and vengeful murder plots by focusing on the women and Native Americans.

Josey Wales joins the Confederate Army in an attempt to exact revenge against the Union men who killed his wife and child. After so many of his fellow soldiers are killed, a furious Wales shoots members of the opposite side and flees to Texas to escape punishment. His thrilling escape had audiences at the edge of their seats.

21. The Wild Bunch (1969)

The Wild Bunch took liberties with their graphic portrayals of violence. Paving the way for Western movies after it, this film showed the gruesome ways of the Old West in a way never seen before in the cinematic genre. Initially shocking to some, it certainly set a new precedent.

The film’s director described the movie as a symbolic representation of the Vietnam War. Although its graphicness was somewhat controversial, the movie’s message was well-received, and Rotten Tomatoes rated it 90%. A critic wrote, “It’s the melancholy, the desolation. It’s one of the saddest Westerns ever made.”

20. Bone Tomahawk (2015)

The filmmakers of Bone Tomahawk took a risk when they decided to bring a horror-style narrative to their western movie. Fortunately, it proved to be a risk worth taking when Rotten Tomatoes awarded the film a 91% score. The unique genre blend was overshadowed by the thrilling storylines and critically acclaimed acting.

When a group of people is held captive by some vicious cave dwellers, a sheriff and his deputy (Kurt Russell and Richard Jenkins) recruit a gunslinger and a cowboy and attempt to rescue them. “Definitely something different for people who like westerns,” wrote one Rotten Tomatoes critic.

19. City Slickers (1991)

Another entry that scored 91% on Rotten Tomatoes is the 1991 comedic western tale, City Slickers. Described by a critic as “one cattle drive you won’t want to miss,” this movie was a critically acclaimed film that showed off the best of Billy Crystal’s comedic timing.

Crystal played Mitch, one-third of a hilarious best-friend trio, who set off an adventurous cattle drive across the southwest. Leaving their wives behind, Phil, Ed, and Mitch, along with their designated cowboy, Curly, begin to understand why it is referred to as the Wild Wild West.

18. No Country for Old Men (2007)

No Country for Old Men can be found on almost any “top movie” list. With its riveting storyline and star-studded cast, the film is a must-see for movie fans of any kind. Josh Brolin stars as Llewelyn Moss, a hunter who discovers the tragic remains of a drug deal gone wrong. Stealing the cash left behind, he flees the scene.

Unfortunately for Moss, an aggressive killer and a sheriff are on his tale, hunting him down. Although it is arguably a neo-western movie because of its modern setting, the movie’s Western tones shone through and earned it a 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

17. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962)

A lawyer named Ransom “Ranse” Stoddard arrives in a new town and is immediately attacked by a gang led by Liberty Vance. After Tom Doniphon saves his life, Ranse learns that Vance has a terrifying control over the town. While Tom fights back against the gang leader with violence, Ranse decides to him down by way of the law.

The movie is viewed as some of the best work by its director John Ford, often referred to as the peak of his career. Labeled by many critics as “a genuine masterpiece” and praised for its accurate discussion of critical political issues, it only makes sense that Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a score of 94%.

16. Johnny Guitar (1954)

Joan Crawford rose to fame with her performance as Vienna in this 1954 film. Johnny Guitar had all the western fan favourites, including revenge plots and bitter disputes, but took it from the female perspective over the male. A progressively bold choice for its time, which certainly paid off.

Most critics were quick to praise the film’s unconventional central character. “Not too many westerns culminate in a… showdown between two women — but then Nicholas Ray wasn’t your average filmmaker,” wrote one of the reviews. The film received a 94% rating from Rotten Tomatoes.

15. Lone Star (1996)

Along the Texas border, in a town name Frontera, Chris Cooper stars as Sheriff Sam Deeds. When the sheriff shockingly digs up the skeleton of an old sheriff in the desert, he begins to investigate its origins. Tracing a forty-year-old murder back to his late father, Cooper discovers some long-buried secrets.

One glance at the movie’s Rotten Tomatoes reviews and its 94% rating perhaps makes sense. For example, one wrote, “with old-fashioned craftsmanship, Lone Star is not a movie you’ll quickly forget. It may not dazzle you with its flash, but it has more on its mind than all the summer would-be blockbusters put together.”

14. Once Upon a Time in the West (1968)

When the fictional western town of Flagstone experience a severe water shortage due to a new railroad structure in the area, the residents begin to turn against each other in a struggle to claim the small piece of land with remaining water resources. When the land’s owner is killed by a rival, chaos breaks out.

Referred to fondly by critics as a western masterpiece, its high Rotten Tomatoes score of 95% matches up. The film’s gripping plot features all the elements of a successful western movie, from aggressive neighbourhood disputes to technological developments on the frontier.

13. True Grit (2010)

This movie is a rare case of a movie remake being more successful and popular than its original. Directed by the Coen brothers, this movie made waves in the film-making industry, being nominated in ten of the Academy Award categories. Most noteworthy was the breakout star, Hailee Steinfeld.

Steinfeld took on the iconic character of fourteen-year-old girl Mattie Ross. Seeking to avenge the murder of her father, Ross recruits a Deputy U.S. Marshal and a Texas Ranger to help her travel through the West to achieve her goal. The critically acclaimed western film is rated 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.

12. High Noon (1952)

With its production taking place in an era filled with a fear of communism, High Noon‘s political connotations were clear. Earning Gary Cooper an Oscar for his leading role as Marshal Will Kane, this critically acclaimed film told the story of a man’s fight to save his town from a brutal group of bandits.

Despite the promising plot, it seems not everyone was impressed by the movie’s production. After turning down the movie’s lead role, award-winning actor John Wayne described the film as “the most un-American thing I’ve ever seen in my whole life.” Despite this critical review, Rotten Tomatoes still awarded it with a 95% rating.

11. 3:10 to Yuma (1957)

Released at a time when Western movies were peaking in popularity, this 1957 movie is adored by many who view the film as a Western classic. Its suspenseful and unpredictable storytelling approach had audiences constantly guessing what Dan Evans would do next.

When outlaw Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) is finally caught after years of terrorizing the state of Arizona, small-time rancher Dan Evans volunteers to escort him to trial. Along the way, the pair face challenges and dangers of all kinds. With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 96%, it makes perfect sense that a remake was released in 2007.

10. Unforgiven (1992)

Director and lead actor Clint Eastwood showed his impeccable talent for the Western movie genre with this 1992 classic. A blockbuster hit at the box office, this film also boasted high levels of critical acclaim, including four Academy Awards. With this, Rotten Tomatoes rated it at 96%.

This film, with its unsettling plot, helped to push Western movies as a whole towards more chilling storytelling. When two cowboys brutally ambush a woman in Wyoming, a former bandit comes out of retirement in an attempt to capture the killers and collect the award. However, he is not the only one willing to do so.

9. The Searchers (1956)

The commercial and critical success of The Searchers is often attributed to the talents of its director John Ford. Alongside its 96% score from Rotten Tomatoes, the American Film Institute cited the iconic western movie as the “Greatest Western of All Time.”

This 1956 tale tells the story of Ethan Edwards, a Civil War veteran who returns from the war to discover his nine-year-old niece, Debby, is missing. Embarking on an incredibly dangerous and challenging mission to find her, he is forced to venture into Comanche territory.

8. Shane (1953)

Shane took a chance with its narrative choice, telling its Western tale through the eyes of a child. Fortunately, the risk proved worth taking as numerous critics were quick to praise the film’s unique approach. This also helps to explain why Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 97% movie rating.

Like many Western movies, Shane tells the story of a man arriving in a new town, hoping to settle down without anyone noticing. As often is the case, the newcomer is pulled into the middle of a local feud; in this case, it’s between the villagers and the terrifying cattle baron Rufus Ryker.

7. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)

The third instalment of the Dollars Trilogy, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, continued with the film series’ unique approach to portraying good and evil characters. While most Western movies present the outlaws as the ‘bad guys,’ through their dirty clothes and unshaven hair, this film also presents its heroes in this way.

With Clint Eastwood’s bandit character possessing a moral compass and other complicated, multi-faceted personalities, the movie has the audience questioning who the real heroes in the story are. This novel approach was highly praised, with Rotten Tomatoes giving it a high 97% score.

6. Deadwood: The Movie (2019)

In light of the success of the HBO series of the same name, a wise but risky decision was made to capitalize on this success and produce a movie. Although often not the case, this film proved just as popular as the original series, and it received a 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Although loyal fans weren’t too happy about the thirteen-year gap between the series’ end and the movie’s release, many noted the film’s impressive ability to continue the story as if there had been no break at all. The movie continues to track the progress of the gold mining camp set up by the characters in the original series.

5. A Fistful of Dollars (1964)

A Fistful of Dollars was the original movie in the Dollars trilogy, which marked the first time its director Sergio Leone would shock audiences with his similar representation of good and evil characters. The dirty and unmaintained heroes of the story would continue to be a feature of the movie series.

Clint Eastwood takes on the role of Joe, also known as “Man with No Name.” Upon entering the village of San Miguel in Mexico, Joe inserts himself into an age-long local feud, falsely pledging his alliance to both sides in an attempt to serve his own best interests. The movie is rated 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.

4. Rio Bravo (1959)

When Sheriff John T.Chance (John Wayne) arrests Joe Burdette for killing a man, his brother makes it clear he will do whatever it takes to free him. Enlisting a disabled older man and a drunk cowboy, Chance does what he can to keep the brothers in their place. Rotten Tomatoes rated it 98%.

After John Wayne made his negative feelings towards the movie High Noon very clear, he set out to make a movie remarkably different from it. This was later revealed to be Rio Bravo. Highly critical of the weak and soft central figure in High Noon, Wayne’s character in Rio Bravo is powerful and fearless.

3. Red River (1948)

These last top three movies all hold a perfect 100% rating from Rotten Tomatoes, placing them at the top of their field and earning them icon status. Red River follows Thomas Dunson and Matt Garth on their cattle drive journey through the West to Missouri. When troubles arise, their friendship is tested.

The movie’s incredible portrayal of the characters’ physical and emotional struggles, the detailed plot, and the award-winning acting performances all helped Red River stand out from the crowd. Film critic, Roger Ebert, went as far as to describe it as “one of the greatest Western films of all time.”

2. Stagecoach (1939)

A revolutionary concept for its time, this Western classic saw an assorted group of people working together to achieve a common goal. The passengers on a train through the Wild West to New Mexico find themselves combing their skills and fighting against an escaped outlaw and the ongoing threat of an Apache attack.

This movie, full of suspense and surprise, was monumental not just for its creative storyline but also because it marked the return of Western movies after an era of silent ones. Although the film was met with some criticisms of its Native American portrayals, it still earned a 100% rating from Rotten Tomatoes.

1. The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948)

The first place award goes to The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, which boasts a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This film made waves in cinematic history when it chose to tell a western story at a time before the genre became popular. Additionally, its decision to film outside of America was unprecedented.

On the hunt for gold, three men embark on a group adventure to the Sierra Madre Mountains. The story depicts the complicated human emotion of greed. In a film review, one critic wrote, “remade but never duplicated, this darkly humorous morality tale represents John Huston at his finest.”

The Dog Breeds You Can Trust To Guard Your Home

While having a trusted companion may top your list of why you want to get a dog, an extra line of defense can be helpful, too. Some dog breeds are better known for their protectiveness than others due to certain characteristics like confidence, build, alertness, intelligence, and more. While television often portrays Dobermans and Rottweilers as the ultimate guard dogs, there are plenty of other breeds that are equally fearless but which you may have never heard of, such as the Thai Ridgeback or the Belgian Laekenois. Read on for a variety of breeds that live to keep their people safe.

Akitas Are Revered As Family Protectors

Weighing in around 100 pounds, Akita dogs have a strong build beneath their thick and fluffy coat that makes them great guard dogs. In their ancient home of Japan, they are highly regarded as family protectors and were bred to be both guardians and hunters.

As such, they are often wary of other dogs and of strangers, so they won’t think twice about defending you. At the same time, they have a silly side that they’re happy to share with family and friends.

Australian Shepherds Are Tough Ranch Dogs

Australian Shepherds are a wonderful mixture of sweet and sour, being both playful and work-oriented. They have a strong impulse to herd and are bursting with energy, so they love to have a job to do and require strong training.

Aussies form a deep bond with their family and will turn all of that energy toward protecting those they love. The breed’s intelligence and loyalty make them easy to train, so long as the owner is willing to provide them with the attention and activity they need.

The Appenzeller Sennenhund Cannot Be Bribed

The Appenzeller Sennenhund, also known as the Appenzeller Mountain Dog or Appenzell Cattle Dog, is both fearless and agile. Their muscular build and lively personality make them ready for action at all times.

They are highly intelligent and top the charts in terms of energy, so they require open land that they can freely play on. Appenzeller Sennenhunds make for not only great guard dogs, but also search and rescue animals. Suspicious of strangers, they won’t be easily distracted with bribes.

Anatolian Shepherd Dogs Protect With Intensity

The Anatolian Shepherd dog stands at just under 2.5 feet tall to the shoulder and weighs up to 150 pounds due to its muscular physique. Bred to protect their flocks, these dogs are skillfully agile and quick thinkers.

Anatolians’ ancestors are some of the oldest-known domestic canines, dating back 6,000 years to the Bronze Age. They have a longstanding reputation for being outstanding guardians. The loyal dogs are wary of strangers, so they need to be socialized at a young age.

The dog breed coming up next has a familiar look, but you may have trouble pronouncing its name.

Beaucerons Are Imposing But Obedient

Beaucerons look a bit like thicker and fluffier Dobermans with their pointy ears and black and auburn fur, but they can also have a black-gray-tan coat. Regardless of their fur, their tall and muscular build combined with their confident expression are sure to ward off any threats.

Auscape/Universal Images Group via Getty Images

These dominant dogs will own their owner, so they need firm but fair training and plenty of mental and physical exercise. By the same token, they are wonderful protectors of the young and defenseless as they are sensitive and smart creatures.

The Belgian Laekenois Is Keenly Alert

The Belgian Laekenois (pronounced Lak-in-wah) is both sturdy and agile, making it no match for intruders. Its dark snout emphasizes its watchful eyes, which are both observant and full of life.

These dogs are very affectionate when it comes to their family, and want nothing more than to please their owner. As such, they take well to training and are sure to protect their master and their property. They are often reserved around strangers but love being around humans they can trust.

Black Russian Terriers Are Powerful

Black Russian Terriers are brawny, shaggy animals full of power. Though they are energetic, they have a calm side that comes out when they get enough exercise. These dominating animals need firm training, but that’s also what makes them intimidating to strangers.

Full of power and confidence, Black Russian Terriers were bred to protect. They are moderately wary of strangers, but won’t hesitate to make their dominance known since these courageous dogs are built to guard.

Boxers Are Fearless

One of the most popular dog breeds for quite some time, according to the American Kennel Club, the Boxer is the perfect mix of fun-loving and hard-working. They are full of curiosity and can be silly at times, making them all the more endearing to their owners.

Though playful, they have a protective nature and courage to match. Goofballs as they may be, they take their job as watchdogs very seriously and will rush forward at the first sign of a threat.

Up next is a breed that looks vaguely like a Boxer, but actually descends from another popular breed.

Boerboels Are No-Nonsense Dogs

Boerboels descend from the same ancestor as Mastiffs, which may explain their strong, bronzy build. One characteristic that some say makes them superior to their Mastiff relatives is their agility.

Bred to act as a shield from the fierce predators of remote South Africa, Boerboels are committed to protecting. Their powerful jaws and thick muscles make them a force you don’t want to reckon with. At the same time, they adore their family and are very calm and smart.

Hovawarts Can Handle Stress

Hovawarts have an even-keeled demeanor that, combined with their loyalty, make them wonderful companions. These intelligent dogs are often on high alert and they have an extra sensitive nose, hence, they are a valuable resource in search and rescue organizations.

Coming up is one breed of retriever you may have never heard of.

Chesapeake Bay Retrievers Are Protective

The Chesapeake Bay Retriever isn’t as popular as its Labrador and Golden Retriever relatives, but they are just as affectionate and loyal. The Chesapeake Retriever has an edge in that it’s both upbeat and reserved when it comes to strangers.

They’ll be polite at first, but the minute they need to they’ll race to protect their humans. The emotionally complex dogs are both obedient and independent, so they won’t hesitate to call themselves to action if things seem threatening.

German Shepherds Will Risk Their Life For Loved Ones

Regarded as working dogs with many exceptional traits, German Shepherds can learn various tasks. Their courage combined with their intelligence make them a wonderful police dog, whether it’s for law enforcement or a single-family home.

Thai Ridgebacks Are Great Jumpers

Between their active character and impressive jumping ability, Thai Ridgebacks are not easy to get past. Bred to hunt and guard, these dogs have exceptional survival instincts and don’t immediately take to strangers.

janamathes/Pixabay

Thai Ridgebacks are loyal to their family and protective of their home, but need an owner who can assert their dominance. These tough dogs require their fair share of exercise, so play and dog sports can be a great way to bond with them.

This next breed doesn’t look like your average dog, but there’s a reason for that.

Chihuahuas Are Small But Feisty

Although Chihuahuas are known as “purse dogs,” they are very feisty. This breed is the perfect example of a small dog with a big dog’s personality. They don’t realize how little they are, which makes their personality so funny. Even though they don’t realize their small stature, Chihuahuas are very intelligent and know how to get their way.

But they are very eager to please their family and they excel at obedience training. This loyal pooch isn’t the best with strangers and might bark if someone unknown walks into their home.

The Bergamasco Sheepdog Has A Natural Shield

The Bergamasco Sheepdog may look like something you would clean your floors with, but that’s part of what makes them such great guard dogs. Their hair strands morph together to form flat layers of felted hair that act as a shield of protection from predators.

Vigilant workers, these dogs are always on the lookout and are wary of strangers at first. At the same time, they are sociable creatures who won’t resort to violence unless they decide it’s needed.

Don’t let the easy-going look of this next dog breed fool you.

Also known as the Bosnian or Herzegovina-Croatian Shepherd Dog, the Tornjak is thought to be descended from the Tibetan Mastiff. The sturdy breed is quick to threaten anyone they deem a risk towards their home or loved ones.

Doberman Pinschers Are Highly Regarded

Cane Corsos Are The “Bodyguard Dogs”

According to the American Kennel Club, the name Cane Corso comes from the Latin meaning for “bodyguard dog,” so it’s safe to say that guarding is a part of their nature. These affectionate dogs are deeply loyal to their owner.

At the same time, their confidence can evolve into assertiveness towards their people if they aren’t trained properly, so it’s important to remain dominant. This characteristic can be read in the breed’s domineering stare, which seems to say “don’t mess with me.”

Staffordshire Bull Terriers Are Tenacious

Staffordshire Bull Terriers, commonly referred to as Staffies, have fighting instincts that linger from the days of being bred to participate in underground dogfighting competitions. In the two centuries since, the breed has evolved into a loving, charismatic companion for the whole family.

Inspired Images/Pixabay

Belgian Malinois Guard The White House

Belgian Malinois, sometimes referred to as Mals, are often confused with the German Shepherd breed. These dogs are best known for their police work, being able to pick up odors such as narcotics and even explosives. They tend to get into this line of work because they are highly intelligent and, therefore, easy to train on challenging assignments.

Arterra/Universal Images Group via Getty Images

Pulis Are Known As The Acrobats Of The Dog World

There is no other breed that resembles the dreadlocked Puli. They are extremely smart, but don’t let the easy training fool you; they are headstrong and aren’t afraid to walk to the beat of their own drum. That being said, Pulis are bred to work closely with humans.

Family Thought They Adopted A ‘Dog’, But When The Vet Sees It He Calls The Police

The Andersons were a young family living in Vermont. Billy, Erica and their four-year-old son, Tim lived together in a small town. Recently in the Anderson home, there had been a lot of sadness. And although the family had just moved into a new town and didn’t know much about the town. There was another reason for this sadness.

The young family had recently lost a dear member, one that had been a part of the family for eleven years, their family pet, Rio. Rio was not merely a pet but a longstanding member of the family.

Billy and Erica had decided to get a dog.

The family decided to have a pitbull. The family found themselves searching the web for a licensed breeder as Tim wanted a puppy.

The couple was unfamiliar with the breeding world and felt the internet would offer the most options. After much searching, they found pitbull breeders. The couple decided to make it a weekend trip and scheduled visits with both breeders. However, their trip proved to be a little disappointing for the family…

The first breeder gave off the wrong vibe from the start. Although the puppies were cute and Tim and Erica had a nice time playing with them, Billy couldn’t fight the weird feeling being at the location gave him. First, it appeared that the dogs lived in uncomfortable areas, secondly the cost seemed questionable too.

The young family didn’t have much luck with the second shop either. While this breeder was cleaner and seemed to take better care of its puppies, the couple was greeted with some sad news on arrival. They had sold the very last two puppies online. Now Erica and Billy were stumped.

The entire family was sad once more, they felt disheartened that their entire trip had turned out to be nothing but a bust. Billy and Erica decide it would be best to get home and figure out a new plan. However, fifteen minutes into their drive and the couple spotted an animal shelter. Would this be destiny?

Erica was ecstatic. She had begun to lose hope and was feeling a little dismayed when she spotted the small shelter on the side of the road. Turning to Billy, she pleads with him to stop and poke in. Something told her, they would find what they were looking for. The young family decided that it couldn’t hurt to at least check it out.

The young couple was in a neighbouring small city and didn’t expect to find much of a selection. They were proven right. The shelter attendant explained they only had ten dogs in their keep and only two of them were puppies and neither were Pitbulls. But one dog in particular immediately caught their eye…

It was one of the older dogs. And as little Tim exclaimed, it was clear that the little boy had the same thought as his mother. The dog looked like a pitbull, or at the very least like one of its parents was a husky. However, the most fascinating thing about the animal was its ‘stripes’.

They were sporadic yellow stripes on his black fur that neither of them had ever seen on a dog. The dog was timid and kind while keeping its distance. It was unlike the other dogs that danced and hopped in hopes of getting some attention. Instead, this pitbull stared on high alert at the door.

The employee explained that the dog had been left at their door just the night before and was still acquainting itself with the space. More so, since it was so new, and had been left with no identification they knew very little about the pitbull, other than the fact that it wasn’t chipped. The Andersons wanted the dog, but there was some hiccup.

The employee stated that the shelter did not normally let animals go without first verifying their identity. However, it was a small town and an even smaller shelter that had not seen an adoption in many months. That fact made the employees state that they would make an exception for the young family. But would they come to regret it?

The couple was overjoyed and headed in to sign the necessary paperwork. It seemed far too much like fate to let the pitbull go. While Billy and Erica signed the papers, young Tim played with the new member of their family who was now slowly getting used to the young boy’s advances.

It took about an hour for all the paperwork to be signed and recorded. And finally, the young family was headed back home with their new family pet. Everyone was excited, most of all Tim, who had now made a new best friend. Unfortunately, this feeling would not last long for the family…

Soon a great revelation would be stealing their newfound joy. One of the conditions of their being allowed to take the pitbull home was a promise to get the dog a full-check up at the vet for health reasons, as the shelter had not had the chance to do so. Little did they know what the visit would lead to…

The family had the chance to bring their new dog, who Tim had fittingly named Yella, by the vet that same day, but then they would need to rush. So they decided to plan an appointment for tomorrow. They first wanted to introduce Yella to his new home

When they got home, Yella seemed to be beaming with excitement and energy. They watched Yella as he carefully inspected every corner of his house, eventually ending at the dog bed where he quickly fell asleep. It had been a long day for him.

The family had already fallen head over heels in love with their new addition to the family and they were so happy they brought him home. They could watch this little angel sleep for hours. But there was so much they did not know yet…

Soon after, the family also went to bed themselves. Yella had seemingly already been solidly asleep for an hour so they felt comfortable leaving him to himself right now. This day had also been full of excitement for them and they had an appointment with the vet early the next day.

The family was happier than they had been in a while. They thought they had found their perfect replacement for Rio, even though he could of course never fully be replaced. But sadly, this happiness would not last as long as they had hoped. Not even close…

That night around 2 o’clock, they were awoken by a loud howling coming from downstairs. Billy was startled by this and had to compose himself for a second. Still rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, Billy made his way downstairs to check on Yella.

Yella was no longer in his sleeping place when Billy came downstairs. He had made his way to Billy’s PC and sat down next to it. Billy was incredibly confused by this behavior. Neither Rio nor any other dog he had heard of ever reacted like this to a PC…

Yella only stopped howling when he was picked up and taken away from the PC. Back to his sleeping place. He didn’t put up much of a fight. Too tired to address this right now, Billy closed the door to his office and went back upstairs. He didn’t hear any more howling for the rest of the night.

The next day the family found Yella sleeping against Billy’s office door. They had no idea how long he had been there or why he was doing this. It was obvious Yella was attracted to the PC, even when he could not see it. Could he sense it somehow?

But the family had barely any time to think of an explanation for this strange behaviour as they had an appointment at their vet in an hour. They got themselves ready and hopped in the car. Yella still seemed very tired for some reason…

The plan was to leave Tim at home for this as they would most likely be in the waiting room a while, but Tim was not going to let Yella out of his sight so all three of them went together. They would however soon wish that Billy went alone for this…

When they got to the vet it was already crazy busy at this early hour so they had a bit of delay and the family had to wait. The waiting room was also quite full as a result and Yella was drawing a lot of attention. Mainly because of his odd characteristics.

Nobody had seen a Pitbull with yellow stripes like this before and the family got a lot of questions. Almost none of which they could answer as they had not done much research themselves as of yet. Why did Yella have these yellow stripes?

Now that they had a moment to kill while waiting for the vet, they started searching the internet for more information. There wasn’t much they could find, however. Apparently, it was even rarer than they had first anticipated.

All of this commotion had also caught the attention of the receptionist of the veterinarian. When she figured out what it was about she immediately called the vet and he had her postpone his next appointments a bit, moving the Andersons up…

A few moments later the vet walked into the waiting room himself. Barely speaking a word only informing the Andersons it was their turn and they to wait here. Billy was surprised but also happy as he didn’t think they would be helped for at least an hour. Why have they moved up the list?

The vet picked up Yella, quickly inspected the excited Pitbull, and then took him into his office. Billy was confused as he expected that they would join him into the office to keep Yella distracted while he did some tests. That is how he did it with Rio at the time.

The family waited in anticipation for the Vet to return, which he did 10 minutes later. But he didn’t have Yella with him. Before they can even ask any questions, the vet ushers the family into a different room. Here he starts explaining the situation…

The vet explained that a couple days ago a report went out about a missing dog belonging to a very rich unnamed tech CEO and that Yella fit the description perfectly. The CEO was also offering a handsome reward for finding his special pitbull.

The vet continued to explain to the family that they were not in trouble, but that he wanted to have called the police first before informing them because he knew that their love for the dog could maybe already be so deep that they would decide to run…

The CEO arrived together with the police about 30 minutes later and sat down with the family. He proved to them that the pitbull belonged to him. It wasn’t chipped because he had simply not gotten around to doing it yet.

The fact that Yella seemed so attracted to PCs now also made sense as he had been around them all the time in the CEO’s office. He probably recognized it and reacted to it because it would feel familiar to him.

The family could do nothing else than agree for the CEO to take his dog back, much to Tim’s disappointment. He didn’t care that the CEO was the Pitbull’s owner, he still saw Yella as his dog. Luckily there was also some good news…

As the vet mentioned, there was also a reward associated with finding the dog and the CEO happily made it all out to the family. Plus he would allow them to see Brutus (which was Yella’s actual name) any time they wanted!

The family eventually adopted a new Pitbull puppy a few weeks later. They used the CEO’s money to get a more expensive one from which they knew it had been raised the right way and fully checked. They quickly started to love this new puppy just as much as Yella, and everybody ended up happy!

Rangers Spot Giant Lion

Rangers George and Mark couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw the lion in the distance. It looked very weird, it looked like he wanted the rangers to help him. George immediately called the local veterinarian, who didn’t know what she encountered. She had never seen anything like this before. When the vet saw the ultrasound she immediately called the police.

When the vet called the police, they told her that they would come her way immediately. This lion needed special help from more than just a vet. This lion needed surgery, as there was obviously something strange going on in its stomach. It might even be a life or death situation….

When the police finally arrived, they helped the vet to sedate the now almost lifeless giant lion. But the police did not only help the vet, they also came to the ranger. “Sir, we need you to come with us, it is important”.. George was shell shocked. What did he do wrong?

George answered questions about himself and the lion. He has been keeping the animal safe as a ranger for multiple years. When he was done with answering all the questions, he heard disbelief from the surgery room. “I can’t believe this!,” said the vet.

For almost a year now, George has been observing the lions in the area as a ranger. He is tasked to keep the animals safe from any harm. It has not been easy recently, lots of poachers and other shady figures were spotted in the sanctuary…

It has been a slow and difficult process for George and the other rangers to keep every animal safe. Due to the lack of manpower, and the constant danger of the savanna. The combination has been very rough for everyone involved.

Their employer keeps putting even more pressure on the rangers, but they can’t handle the whole situation. Many outsiders have noticed, and taken advantage, of this as well. Which makes everything even more dangerous.

When George went for his usual route one day he ended up seeing something enormous in the distance. At first he thought he was just overworked and seeing things. But when he came closer his mouth fell open. How could this be?

What George saw scared him a lot, he even jumped back a little. He did not want to approach the lion at first, because he didn’t know how it would react. George immediately had to urge to help the animal, there was definitely something very wrong.

It was the biggest lion George had ever seen, he recognised this lion as well. It was the alpha male of the local lion pack. But the lion did not seem to be his proud self, his belly was completely swollen. It looked like it needed help from George.

George started to approach the lion, he was scared a bit, but his love for animals was stronger. He had to figure out what was going on, he couldn’t let the lion just go like that. He decided to call for more backup from other rangers.

When George talked to his superior there was no question about it, action had to be taken immediately. They had to safe the animal from whatever was causing it’s belly to swell. George definitely had to act fast.

With more rangers quickly arriving George started to slowly approach the lion. Lion’s are proud animals, so he had no idea how it would react to George. Then it turned to George, George heart sank for a minute. Was the lion going to attack him?

“Get back!” yelled the other rangers. They warned their George that the lion might act aggressively in this condition as he is trying to defend himself if he feels threatened. So the rangers came up with another solution..

The rangers decided that they will have to call somebody and try to get a hold of the nearest animal veterinarian. When the call with the vet ended, the ranger that called him reacted in full shock.

The vet says that the rangers have to get out of the immediate area of the lion, or he will definitely attack them. He asked the rangers to do one thing before he could threat the lion. Sedate it, so they could take a closer look…

George made sure he and the rangers secured the area for the vet to safely get close. George took it upon his self to sedate the lion. He had found it, so he would made sure everything would go as smoothly as it can.

Luck was on the side of the rangers, the lion was very quickly sedated and did not seem to fight it. Maybe the lion really wanted to be helped, as it did not show any signs of resistance or the will to attack the rangers.

Now the rangers could clearly see where the bulge of the lion was located on the body. George called back the vet, who was still not there, to report their finding. The rangers are curious about what they had to do next, but then the vets’ tone changes immediately after hearing where the bulge is…

The bulge was located on a very specific place in the body, at the start of the stomach, meaning that it is probably unable to enter the lion’s body. But what could be inside this lion?

The lion has obviously swallowed something it shouldn’t have and probably required immediate surgery if it was to survive. There was no time to lose. But the rangers didn’t know what to do. So they asked the vet what they should do. Is she here within the crucial time? Or should they bring the lion to her? They hoped it was the first option.

But for the vet, to get to the ranger’s location was a challenge in itself, because she did not know the exact location of the rangers and the workers. Next to that, it was also rush hour, so she would probably get stuck in traffic. But she had to get there as fast as possible to give the lion the best chance of survival.

One of the rangers proposed to pick her up. But that would take too long. But there were still people in the ranger’s headquarters who knew the rangers location exactly, and how to get to the location. So the vet decided to visit the headquarters.

After explaining the situation, a manager was willing to help her and they were going to use his all-terrain jeep to traverse the savanna, which is never easy. The vet experiences one hell of a ride.

The journey takes about 3 hours in total. A journey on which the vet had considered many times if the life of this lion was worth wasting a whole day plus extra on it. Other animals in need might have also needed her help…

At the site, the rangers were also struggling with the time they had to wait for the vet. Their fear became the truth. The lion’s sedative wore out, and he had no intention of staying at his current place. It waited a long enough time and was trying to be on the move again. The rangers did not know what to do next.

Some rangers wanted to just let it go as that meant they could finally go back home. Why were they caring so much about a lion in the first place? It was just an animal, who had probably eaten something wrong. There was no consensus amongst the group.

Others had taken the vet’s words to heart and knew that if they let the lion go now it would certainly die. Luckily for the lion and the vet, this group was in the overwhelming majority.

The lion was still moving very slowly, so the rangers were able to block its paths back into the depths of the savanna with their jeeps. They couldn’t sedate the animal again, because they used all of their sedatives, the vet has a dose with her. But they had to stall for her.

They could not encapsulate the lion fully so they had to keep moving to keep blocking the lion’s path. The animal was obviously getting irritated by this and the rangers had to be careful. The rangers started to worry. Is this the right thing to do?

A lion of this size, even if it was not in great condition, could easily kill one of them if it got hold of them. The rangers knew that they had to trust each other. It became a team effort where even the people who wanted to let the lion go help out.

When the vet finally arrived at the site, the lion was still laying at the same place as where the rangers kept him. But it became more and more obvious that this would not be the case for very long, as the lion had gotten really aggressive at this point.

The rangers did not even want to remove their jeeps that they had put there to hold the lion in place, but the lion instantly targeted the rangers that were still in their jeeps. Many of the rangers already had some close calls, but the fear for the lion increased to an all-time high now.

Some rangers drove their jeeps away from the lion, they didn’t want to get hurt. The vet had to act quickly and knew that the only chance here was if she could quickly sedate the lion. But sedating the lion was not without certain risks.

There was always a risk that the lion might not wake up from this, considering the condition it was described to be in. But seeing it so actively trying to attack the rangers, the doctor had the confidence that it would survive the injection. The only thing left was approaching the lion with the tranquilizers.

The vet waited for the lion to have his head turned in the other direction. After that, she slowly approached the lion and swiftly injected the sedative into the lion’s lower body. Now they had to wait until the lion was fully sedated.

Over the next couple of minutes, it slowed down more and more and the vet was able to inject the lion with a couple of more sedatives which were necessary for a lion this size go completely out.

After a while, the lion was completely out. Some rangers dropped on their knees from exhaustion and their heart rate finally dropped back to normal a bit. They’d faced possible death numerous times by now, so they were relieved that they survived.

Now the vet could finally turn her attention to the big bulge on the lion that she actually came for. She takes her surgery kit out of the big jeep from the rangers headquarters and sets it up to get to work. She decided to make an ultrasound first.

When looking at the ultrasound she immediately called the police. She had suspicions of strange activities. The police were apparently already in the area to assist with the surgery. George had to answer a few question first. Why him?

The vet can quickly confirm her suspicions that the object is stuck at the entrance to the lion’s stomach by feeling its body. The object stuck in its body was something that the lion had swallowed and could not be broken down by the digestive system. The vet could only do one thing…

At this point, there is nothing else to do but to carefully cut open the lion and get the object out of it. But surgery always comes with a risk, especially if this surgery has to be done in the middle of the savanna. But there is no other option available.

With the greatest precision and care, the vet cuts open the lion along with the bulge and after getting through the skin, muscle and oesophagus, the source of the bulge is finally revealed to everybody. But it is not what they expected it to be…

Out of the lion came a piece of meat that was not digested properly, which caused the swelling. Inside of the meat was something rather suspicious that baffled the vet at first, this was the reason why George had to answer the police. There was something glowing inside of the meat.

There was a small microchip embedded inside of the meat, George told the officers that he had a feeling what this could be. He started explaining his past encounter with some shady figures recently here in the area.

George had recently caught some poachers, they had some device with them, he confiscated it. He quickly ran to his truck and gave the officers the device. One officer immediately recognised the device, they had caught someone else with almost the same one recently.

This device could be used to track the microchip, this way the poachers could easily locate the lion, without the rangers knowing. This was an advanced tactic used recently. The meat they had used couldn’t be digested by the lion, that is why it got stuck.

With the chip removed, the vet quickly starts stitching up the lion again. While she does this, she also makes sure that there was nothing else wrong with the lion. But he seemed to be healthy, she predicts that he would be back in shape in no time.

It takes about a few minutes for the lion to wake up. It is still dazed and confused at first. But after a while, it starts walking away a lot faster than it was before the surgery. After the lion was gone again in the savanna, the vet had one thing left that she needed to do…

She thanked the rangers for their incredible effort to keep the lion and themselves safe. After this, she went back to the city where she has more patients waiting for her. To make sure the lion was okay, the vet did one last thing.

She made sure that George would keep her informed about the movements of the lion, George would keep an eye on the lion for her. The police made sure that the responsible poachers were caught. The actually managed to arrest the whole organisation. The animals would be safe again.

Highest grossing movies

Many people enjoy watching movies because it takes them to new places. They can experience adventures they could never have in real life, and they can forget about the issues surrounding the world for a few hours.

Overall, making movies is a lucrative business. Though it started out as small skits in black and white with no sound, films have come a long way. Whether you like action or drama movies, there’s something for everyone, as long as you enjoy visual media.

While there’s something for everyone, some things might appeal more to people, and those movies tend to bank more. Here are some of the highest-grossing films of all time.

  • Jurassic Park (1993)

Steven Spielberg created a technological masterpiece of a movie, and it still awes and shocks people decades later. Though the sequels made more money, none of them come close to the original wonder. Its lifetime gross is way over $1 billion, currently at $1,033,917,066.

  • Despicable Me 3 (2017)

In most cases, a sequel doesn’t gross as much from the box office, so a third movie is even less likely to make the big bucks. However, that doesn’t stop Despicable Me 3 from doing it all. Its lifetime gross is $1,034,800,131.

(3) Pirates of the Caribbean – Stranger Tides (2011)

The fourth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean is still one of the highest-grossing films throughout the years. It seems everyone loves the quirky antics of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp). It doesn’t hurt that Penelope Cruz popped up, too. Its lifetime gross is right at $1,045,713,802.

(4) Aladdin (2019)

Walt Disney Pictures did it again with the 2019 version of Aladdin. This musical fantasy comedy doesn’t have Robin Williams, sadly, but Will Smith is still a hilarious wise-cracking genie. Its lifetime gross is currently at $1,050,693,953!

(5) Rogue One – Star Wars Story (2016)

Everyone loves Star Wars, so it’s no wonder that it keeps popping out new ways to enjoy it. Rogue One is a space opera film, and it’s also a female-led story that breaks new ground in the fantasy world. Its lifetime gross is $1,056,057,720!

(6) Pirates of the Caribbean – The Dead Man’s Chest (2006)

Who knew you could create a blockbuster franchise from a simple theme-park ride? Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films did! This is the second in the series and got an Oscar nomination for Johnny Depp. Its lifetime gross is right at $1,066,179,747!

(7) Toy Story 3 (2010)

Now that Andy is off to college, this might be the end of Woody and Buzz Lightyear, or is it? Toy Story 3 was a huge hit because fans couldn’t get enough of the fun-loving toys and wanted to know what might happen as Andy got older. Its lifetime gross is currently at $1,066,969,703.

(8) Toy Story 4 (2019)

Pixar’s storytelling is a true powerhouse. How could it unspool a fourth instalment of the beloved series? Though it’s probably the last, Buzz, Woody, and all the gang now have a plastic spark to play with! Its lifetime gross is $1,073,000,000!

(9) Star Wars – Episode IX (2019)

The saga spanning over four decades is finally coming to an end. The Rise of Skywalker had an all-star cast, which is probably one of the reasons why it did so well at the box office. Plus, it didn’t hurt that the movie stuck its landing. It’s already earned $1,074,144,248!

(10) Joker (2019)

This modern-day masterpiece was created from the same person who did The Hangover. Though it’s ultra-violent and ultra-dark, it’s the origin story for Joker, Gotham City’s infamous villain, and it has everything you could want in a psychological thriller. Its lifetime gross is $1,074,000,000!

(11) The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

The Batman trilogy is something everyone should see, and the conclusion, The Dark Knight Rises, features Anne Hathaway as Catwoman and Christian Bale as Bane. These two professionals have what it takes. Its current lifetime gross is $1,081,000,000.

(12) Transformers – The Age of Extinction (2004)

For the fourth installment of the Transformers franchise, you have Mark Wahlberg instead of Shia LaBoeuf. Though some worried about the three-hour runtime, even that wasn’t enough to keep the fans away. This movie has a lifetime gross of about $1,104,000,000!

(13) Skyfall (2012)

If you like spy films and the James Bond series, you’re sure to appreciate the 23rd installment called Skyfall. This is the first mission in over 50 years to cross the span of a billion dollars at the box office. Everyone enjoyed the film, apparently, because it grossed $1,109,000,000!

(14) Transformers – The Dark of the Moon (2011)

The third installment of Transformers was a bit of a clunker in the critique’s corner because it only received a 35 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it has a low budget and still managed to get the all-time highest gross for the series worldwide. It’s sitting at $1,124,000,000 right now!

(15) Captain Marvel (2019)

Everyone seems to enjoy the Marvel comics, and if you’re a fan of Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers, you’re sure to appreciate the Captain Marvel film. It’s based on those beloved characters, and most people seem to feel the way you do. It has a lifetime gross right now of $1,128,000,000!

Meet the ‘Devil Chefs’ of Kashmir

Wazas are chefs whose craft is passed down through family lines.

FOR SEVERAL DECADES, 70-YEAR-OLD ASADULLAH Khan’s life has revolved around preparing a Kashmiri delicacy: the meal known as wazwan. Khan, a resident of Srinagar in Kashmir, learned his skills from his father as an adolescent. He had no choice. Khan belongs to a family as famed for their cooking as for their notorious moniker: the Shaitan waz’e, or “the devil chefs.”

The family picked up this nickname nearly a century ago, during the term of Ghulam Mohammad Bakshi, the Prime Minister of the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Khan’s ancestors cooked for the Bakshi family. One day, “there was a special function at the Bakshi residence and my great-grandfather was asked to prepare some unique dishes,” Khan says.

After the meal was over, a guest asked Bakshi if he could meet the waza, or chef, responsible for the supernaturally delicious meal he had just enjoyed. Bakshi then introduced the guest to Khan’s great-grandfather.

The guest, blown away by the chef’s skills and immense culinary knowledge, exclaimed that he must be a shaitan, a devil. The name stuck, and with it came a certain reputation for nigh-magical cooking. Throughout his life, Khan has narrated this incident to hundreds of people. “The story, like our skills, has been passed down to us through generations and we need to keep them both alive,” he says.

Khan himself is a fifth-generation waza dedicated to the art of wazwan. Wazwan is the pride of Kashmiri cuisine. Organized for events such as marriages and festivals, this elaborate, multi-course meal almost entirely consists of dishes made from sheep, and lamb mutton.

Wazwan can consist of as many as 36 dishes, but some are especially relished. There’s tabakh maaz—ribs boiled with salt and garlic, then chopped into pieces and fried crispy brown. Rista, where meat is pounded, shaped into meatballs, and cooked in mutton stock. There’s rogan josh, where chunks of meat are steam-cooked in gravy, and aabgosh, large chunks of lamb slow cooked in milk and ghee. The very last dish served in wazwan is goshtab: mutton cooked in yogurt, ghee, mutton stock, spices, and garnished with dried mint.

For serving, cooks place the meat over a layer of rice on a large copper platter, which is big enough for four people to enjoy at once. The wazwan can only be prepared by wazas, who cook dozens of dishes to serve hundreds of people at a time.

Wazwan itself has Persian roots. According to Khan, Islamic preacher Shah Hamdan brought the feasting style to Kashmir in the 18th century, where it became famous during the centuries of Mughal rule. The Mughals brought their own chefs from Persia, and one such chef married a local woman and settled down. (Khan belongs to the same clan.) The original Persian wazwan had a total of 53 dishes, but in Kashmir, the meaty main course generally ranges from seven to 36, Khan says.

It takes a team of six chefs about 16 hours to cook 200 pounds of mutton. Their tasks range from mincing the mutton until the right texture is achieved, ensuring the chops are all cut uniformly, cooking the dishes, and serving the feast.

Each head chef supervises a flock of workers, of varying seniority, just as in commercial kitchen. But instead of an indoor chrome-lined kitchen, wazas cook on wood fires in the courtyards of their clients.

Mohammad Ismail Bhat, a resident of Srinagar’s Sanat Nagar area, had planned to invite 700 people to the marriage ceremony of his daughter in May 2021. However, the family was forced to invite only close family members due to the second wave of the Covid-19 crisis in the country.

Bhat believes that marriage ceremonies are incomplete without a crew of wazas cooking up wazwan. However, the restrictions turned out to be a mixed blessing. ”Our business had taken successive major blows in the past two years,” he explains. “The traditional wazwan feast for 700 people would have cost us $4,000 to $5,000 but we were able to save that money as we could not invite more people.”

Despite the astronomical cost, these catered meals are always the main event of any Kashmiri wedding. In many cases, the date of the ceremony is only set after consulting the wazas about their availability on that particular day. If the wazas are not available, the marriage is often postponed.

But the Covid-19 pandemic has turned these elaborate ceremonies into shorter and more intimate affairs. Khan says that this change did not have a huge impact on his family. But it affected the workers working under him. “We hardly required any manpower during this period and managed everything on our own,” says Khan. “This is why the junior wazas earlier employed by us on a daily wage basis suffered the most. There was no work left for them.”

This stung, because the Khan family’s contribution to their community extends beyond mere training. Throughout history, wazas in Kashmir were often considered illiterate by the general public, and faced stigma due to their low caste status. The Khan family has managed to change that perception, by requiring everyone in the family to complete their education before joining the business and encouraging their employees to do the same.

Asadullah’s nephew, Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, completed his postgraduate degree in business administration from a Delhi college. Yet Ahmed chose to return to the Kashmir Valley. His family objected, but Mushtaq was insistent that he did not want a corporate job. For him, joining the ancestral business meant a lot more.

“After working for a few years in different companies, I was not happy. It took me some time to convince my elders that there is nothing wrong with joining our family business. My father allowed me to join and learn the trade only when he realized that I would not give up,” says the 44-year-old, who heads a team of 45 wazas. Now, he is known as Mushtaq Shaitan.

Despite the next generation stepping forward, the future still seems murky. Though the Valley has always been mired in conflict, nothing had prepared the wazas for the current scenario.

In 2019, the Indian government revoked much of Kashmir’s autonomy, then instituted a months-long communication and media blackout. Along with the restrictions imposed to curb the spread of Covid-19, the overall economy of Jammu and Kashmir took a hit. The waza community, too, wasn’t spared. “Our earnings were cut below half,” says Ahmed. “It was a situation where we were just thinking about earning a living.”

Although Ahmed started to deliver wazwan to his regular customers, it was not an easy transition. “One of the most important components of wazwan is cooking in an open courtyard and serving it hot. This cannot be replaced by any other means. Wazwan is a feeling that binds us to our culture, and customers miss this,” he says.

But Ahmed believes that the situation will improve. One day, he says, his team of wazas will again cook in the courtyards of clients and serve wazwan to wedding parties, just as his forefathers have done for generations before him.

Turmeric is truly a miracle cure

Turmeric, is a relatively unknown food in the Netherlands. That’s a shame, because if there is one product that deserves the name ‘superfood’, it is turmeric. More than 600 preventive and therapeutic uses of turmeric have already been discovered and the research just keep pouring in. A woman named Karin tried turmeric and ate it every day for a month. What she noticed after that month, no one had expected.

Karin had been suffering from high cholesterol and gastrointestinal problems for a while. She looked for solutions without result and gave turmeric one last chance to get rid of her problems. She cooked with it for a month and that apparently had a lot of effect. Karin soon found that turmeric was the solution to her health problems, but also found that it worked very well for many more things. Curious about what else turmeric can help with? We’ll break it down for you.

1. Turmeric helps with weight loss

Turmeric can really help you lose weight. Animal studies have shown that it helps stabilize sugar levels. The powder prevents the storage of carbohydrates as fat, which blocks weight gain. And because turmeric is pungent, it also boosts metabolism. And this speeds up the burning of calories in the long run. Finally, turmeric improves the taste of food. This means that we are full faster and therefore eat less.

2. Turmeric helps against aging

Everyone wants to live as healthy as possible, of course, even when you are older. Turmeric can make this easier for you. Antioxidants not only help prevent cancer, but also prevent aging. Aging is the visible effect of cell damage. Antioxidants absorb the damaging effects of free radicals and toxins, preventing cell damage. The spice itself is not an antioxidant, but research has shown that it increases antioxidant levels in the body. That is why it also effectively prevents aging. Not only inside of the body, but also on the outside!

3. Turmeric Can Fight Depression

Turmeric may also help fight depression. Research was done into the link between turmeric and depression. That study found that the active ingredient in turmeric, curcumin, was effective in reducing symptoms of depression. This effect can be enhanced by combining it with other herbs.

Another interesting property of the spice is that it enhances the effects of antidepressants. They work best in combination with turmeric. In other words, the powder itself can help reduce feelings of depression, while enhancing the effects of other depression medications.

4. Turmeric is good for your heart

Turmeric also has a beneficial effect on your heart. It contains substances that have a positive effect on the functioning of the heart and blood cells. In one study, a group of 121 patients undergoing surgery were given 4 grams of turmeric or a placebo a few days later. In the group that received the spice, the risk of a heart attack in the hospital decreased by 65%. That’s why it would make sense to add turmeric to your diet if you’re at risk for heart disease.

5. Turmeric detoxifies the body

Turmeric is used in most body detox programs, which is no coincidence, as it can have an effect on liver quality. This is the main organ that needs to be cleaned. Studies have shown that fermented turmeric powder improves liver function.

6. Turmeric Helps Against Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia. But turmeric can help prevent it. Turmeric is also good for the brain and especially for the memory. Regular consumption of turmeric also reduces the risk of Parkinson’s disease.

Alzheimer’s disease occurs because certain proteins (particularly tau proteins) build up in the brain and cause brain cells to die. Studies in rats have shown that turmeric can prevent this behavior of tau proteins, which has a positive effect on brain health.

7. Turmeric as a natural pain reliever (for rheumatism and osteoarthritis)

Turmeric has been used in Asia for centuries as a pain reliever. Turmeric has also been shown to reduce pain in rheumatism and osteoarthritis, sometimes even more so than medicinal cures. Studies have shown that turmeric supplements are more effective at relieving pain than diclofenac. This is good because drugs like diclofenac have several side effects. Turmeric is a natural product and does not harm the body in any way. So, if you’re looking for an effective yet harmless pain reliever, turmeric is a good option.

8. Cancer

According to some studies, curcumin in turmeric blocks the multiplication of cancer cells. Studies in rats have shown that curcumin partially neutralizes damage to cells in the liver, kidneys and brain, preventing cancer in these organs. The National Cancer Foundation is funding two studies looking into turmeric. Scientists have found that this spice prevents the formation of tumors.

9. Turmeric Lowers Cholesterol Levels

Turmeric works wonders for your blood. It lowers cholesterol levels and thus prevents the risk of heart attack. According to research, taking turmeric for just a week leads to a significant improvement in cholesterol levels. Participants in this study took a turmeric supplement once a week. Their cholesterol was then measured again and it was found that the bad cholesterol levels decreased heavily, while the good HDL cholesterol increased by 33%.

In addition, turmeric strengthens blood cells and prevents platelet aggregation. This triple effect of turmeric explains why it is so beneficial in preventing cardiovascular disease.

10. Turmeric Promotes Good Digestion

Turmeric makes it easier for the body to digest food. If you have intestinal problems, definitely give it a try. Curcumin plays an important role in the prevention and treatment of stomach ulcers and also supports liver function.

Animal studies have shown that turmeric reduces the risk of liver damage. Rats given curcumin suffered less from liver disease than others. In Germany, turmeric is already actively used as a natural remedy for gastrointestinal problems.

I am sure you will try it soon. Best wishes
